HACM's Secretary-Executive Director, Tony Pérez, is a firm believer that HACM's staff can help to mold young minds to do positive things. He shared the following message:
"For those of you who have hosted and mentored a youth worker last year, my sincere thanks for your time, commitment and leadership. I know that this takes extra effort. Jackie Joyner Kersee said, 'Your environment doesn't define you. I don't have a lot of money, but I can help train people and I can talk to people. We can all be mentors to the next generation.' Providing a young person with work experience can and does make a difference.
Part of HACM’s mission statement is to promote self-sufficiency. The combination of youth worker opportunities provides all of us with a chance to offer some time and our considerable talent to our young residents and other Milwaukee youth. If all of our kids are busy doing something productive, there is less time to engage in unproductive activities.
I strongly encourage you to incorporate youth this summer in your daily work and show them your best efforts."
