Murals Bring Hope to Westlawn Community Garden
The Westlawn community gardens are the backdrop for a beautiful new mural created by over 50 youth through a program facilitated by Safe & Sound and the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center with support from the Potawatomi Hotel & Bingo’s Heart of Canal Program. There was a buzz in the air as the youth proudly unveiled the new public art on June 24. The teens worked with youth organizer Joshua Jenkins and artist Tia Richardson to design the mural to express their hopes for the community. The six panels of the mural reflect positive attributes, such as peace, communication, teamwork, and healthy living. Alderman Johnson, MPD 4th District Police Captain Wurth and many others were on hand to commend the youth at the unveiling. View news coverage of the unveiling here.
