In Memoriam: 41st US President George HW Bush
The Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee honors the life and legacy of 41st President of the United States George Herbert Walker Bush, who passed away Friday, November 30, 2018 at the age of 94.
President Bush served as Commander in Chief from 1989 to 1993 and prior to that was vice president to Ronald Reagan for two terms. His career of public service spanned more than 40 years. He was also a decorated Navy pilot who was shot down in the Pacific during World War II.
President Bush was also known for being a dedicated family man. He was married to Barbara Bush, who passed away earlier this year, for 73 years. They raised six children together and were grandparents to 14 grandchildren.
As we remember President Bush, we are reminded of his lifelong commitment to public service and that each and everyone one of us is capable of being “points of light” in our communities. In The Points of Light Movement: The President's Report to the Nation, President Bush wrote, “Points of Light are the soul of America. They are ordinary people who reach beyond themselves to touch the lives of those in need, bringing hope and opportunity, care and friendship. By giving so generously of themselves, these remarkable individuals show us not only what is best in our heritage but what all of us are called to become.”Obituary
