Celebrating HACM's Latest YouthBuild Crew
On December 13, HACM hosted a celebration for its fourth cohort of the YouthBuild program. YouthBuild is a collaborative partnership that helps prepare young adults for careers and employment in the construction industry.
Eleven young men graduated from the program last week. At the graduation ceremony, one of the program participants, Ne'Con Bowman, shared how the program was a life-changing experience for him. “When I first started the program, I was lost in life. I dropped out of school to be on the streets fulltime. I had bills to pay, a baby on the way, and I just spiraled out of control,” recalled Bowman. Not only has he completed the program, but he has obtained is high school diploma and will soon be getting his license in carpentry.”
Three of the YouthBuild participants, including Bowman, have been selected to participate in a program developed by the Housing Authority called the At-Promise Resident Training Program. In this program, they will continue to receive important life skills training, further their education, and work for us part-time for up to two years with the ultimate goal of placing them in quality, well-paying, full-time jobs.
