Multi-Sport Court Collaborative Group Selected as MANDI Finalist
Sponsored by U.S. Bank, in partnership with LISC Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Awards for Neighborhood Development Innovation (MANDIs) recognizes individuals, organizations, and projects that are improving conditions in Milwaukee’s neighborhoods.
Key partners for the Multi-Sport Court Collaborative Group project included the Milwaukee Bucks, Johnson Controls, Milwaukee Public Schools, the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee, and the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center.
Johnson Controls and the Bucks underwrote the funding for construction of the $150,000 multi-use court (soccer, basketball, small track, playground games), and the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee readied the area with the $1.7 million storm water retention project. In addition, this project has provided a beautiful and dynamic new gathering place for the neighborhood, whether through organized sports, informal play, or community events. Along with the redevelopment of the Westlawn neighborhood, the multi-sport court is helping to change the profile of the neighborhood as a place of health, community engagement, and responsible stewardship of the environment.
Propelled by a dynamic group of community partners working together to maximize impact at the neighborhood level, the multi-sport court is an investment in the power of a community space to educate, build social cohesion and community pride, and to responsibly solve neighborhood infrastructure challenges.
Winners will be announced on Thursday, April 11, 2019.
