Happy Holidays from HACM!
Wishing You and Yours a Joyous and Safe Holiday Season
On behalf of the Board of Commissioners and executive team of the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee, we wish you and yours health, happiness, and peace during this holiday season and through the coming year!
A special thank you to all those who spread holiday cheer to our residents and beyond through festive events, gift donations, and volunteerism!
HACM's Holiday Happenings
Over 300 Children Receive Gifts Through Santa for a Day
In the first year of its partnership with HACM, Santa for a Day fulfilled the Christmas wishes of over 300 children living in public or voucher-assisted housing. HACM residents were invited to bring their children to letter writing events where kids wrote letters to Santa and requested three gifts. All letters were scanned onto the Santa for a Day website where the public could read the letters and purchase gifts. Santa then delivered the gifts to HACM's Community Services location and spent time enjoying cookies and Christmas stories with families. Through these efforts, Santa for a Day aims to help show the power of goodness in the face of adversity.
Best Gives Back to Over 50 Families
In what has become a wonderful holiday tradition, the employees of Michael Best & Friedrich gave back big once again by generously donating gifts to over 50 HACM families this holiday season. HACM’s Community Services staff asked the families to write down their gift wishes, which were then shared with employees of Michael Best & Friedrich's Milwaukee office during their annual Holiday Giving Tree program. HACM and our residents greatly appreciate the generosity of our long-time partner and its employees. Just look at those holiday smiles!
BloomMKE & LSS Spread Holiday Cheer at HACM
Bloom MKE and Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan hosted Holiday Cheer events for our senior and adult disabled residents at seven HACM locations this year. These joyous celebrations give residents an opportunity to interact with neighbors and volunteers, sing holiday songs, enjoy snacks, and receive gifts and prizes. Many thanks for carrying on this tradition that so many of our residents look forward to each holiday season!
Westlawn Gardens Resident Council Shares Holiday Spirit
The Westlawn Gardens Resident Council shared their holiday spirit by coordinating a Holiday Giving Tree. The council worked with several organizations to collect gifts and spread holiday cheer to children, adults, and seniors. Thank you to the following companies for their generosity: United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County Holiday Giving Tree, KPMG, One America, Newmark Knight Frank, Manitowoc Cranes, Eastside Dental, and 911 Pest Solution.
Public Safety Officers Participate in Shop with a Cop Program
Two of HACM's public safety officers, Ronnie Perez and Malcolm Hunt, volunteered with the West Milwaukee Police Department's annual “Shop with a Cop" event. The event seeks to help foster positive relationships between youth and officers. Through financial and service donations from a variety of businesses, low-income youth are matched with officers who take them on a holiday shopping trip. Afterwards, the officers joined the youth and their families to enjoy a catered dinner and a visit from Santa.
"I was paired with Journey, an enthusiastic 12-year-old girl. Journey was extremely caring and selfless, choosing to spend most of the money she was given on her mother, sister, and brother. She did get herself a sweater for her church's ugly sweater party, a new outfit, headphones, and two teddy bears. One of Journey's favorite hobbies is collecting stuffed animals. It was an honor to be paired with Journey, who showed me you can never have enough stuffed animals."

"I had the opportunity to accompany Jadmary, a lovely 12-year-old young lady from Nicaragua who moved to the U.S. when she was just a toddler. Jadmary and her family were chosen because of her good grades and because this Christmas was going to be tough for the family. Jadmary was able to get some very special items for her brothers and a clothing decorating kit for herself. With this kit, she will be able to bring out the clothing designer that she aspires to be. The event was a great success and I was proud to participate and represent HACM’S Public Safety Department."
